What to expect Print

At Bli Bli Community Baptist, we believe "church" is much more than a Sunday service.  As important as our Sunday services are to us, we are much more than a Sunday gathering - we are a growing family who share our lives with each other, and serve and support each other all throughout the week too (as you do in a normal healthy family).  Like Jesus, we also use our God-given time, energy, talents and resources to serve and meet the needs of others outside our fellowship on a regular basis.

Here's a bit more about us.

Church Service

If you've never been to a church service before, or haven't been to one like ours, you may be pleasantly surprised to find how relaxed we are!  There's no dress code, no expectations, the teaching is relevant and in a language you'll understand.  In fact, we think you'll soon feel right at home.

To help give you an idea of the kinds of things that take place in one of our Sunday morning services, here's some more details:

  • Duration:  Services usually run for about an hour or so (9:30am - 10:30am), followed by a "cuppa".
  • Music:  We worship God on Sunday morning through a variety of contemporary songs, as led by our small church music team (usually just acoustic/electric and bass guitars) and singers.  Sometimes we clap or raise our hands to worship God.  But, as one of our songs goes, worship is "more than a song" (or songs).
  • Prayer:  We usually pray a few times in most services, either led by someone up the front, or just quietly on our own.  When the opportunity presents itself and a need is shared with the church, some of us are also keen to pray for that person and for that need.
  • Offering:  We collect a monetary offering every service. This is an opportunity for people who know Jesus personally to give a portion of their income (a tithe) back to God and to thank Him for how He's provided for them.  If you're a visitor in our service, we don't expect you to put anything in the offering bag.
  • Messages:  Our messages are brought by our pastor or guest speakers, and are aimed at helping you discover what the bible says about how to live.  We often read the Bible during the message, but if you don't bring one that's fine, because the Bible passages being used are usually placed on the large screen at the front of the church.
  • Communion:  This is an important part of our church life.  We usually celebrate the Lord's Table (Communion) once every three weeks.  It is a sacred time when we eat bread and drink grape juice as a symbol and way of remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Jesus said that we should keep doing this until He comes again.)  If you don't wish to partake in this, again, just feel free to let the Communion bread and cup pass you by.
  • Children:  We have a children's program (KidZone) which runs during the morning service.  KidZone is for children of kindy, prep and primary school age, and is a safe environment with a bunch of enthusiastic leaders and helpers.
  • Creche:  We have a creche room available for tiny tots.
  • After Church:  After every service we have a time of just hanging out together and getting to know each other better.  Most people wear name tags to facilitate that getting-to-know-you process - it's especially helpful for new-comers.  (If you would like a name tag, just write your name on the list provided and we will arrange to have one made up for you.)  In the mornings we usually have tea, coffee, cold drinks and other goodies.  Children are welcome to use the school's playground facilities after church.

We look forward to meeting you at one of our Sunday morning services.
